A drop in the ocean

Meaning:

  • A very small or unimportant amount, especially in comparison to the amount that is needed.

Note: You can also say a drop in the bucket

Example sentence:

It was nice of him to give some money to charity. Unfortunately, his contribution is a mere drop in the ocean. Big companies should participate too.

Questions for you to answer:
  1. Have you ever felt that what you did was just a drop in the ocean?
  2. Do you give up things when you feel they are only drops in the ocean?
  3. Should people do things for charity even if they feel they are mere drops in the ocean? Why?
